Have you heard of AIIM and ASTM's Best Practice Guide for PDF Healthcare? This provides a secure container for vital healthcare information. What should we be doing with this effort? How can we best promote it and get it front of the Obama administration? Any ideas or directions for this effort are appreciated.

As a follow-on to the Best Practices Guide for Healthcare, AIIM produced an Implementation Guide providing examples of how PDF can be used for healthcare records. You can download this guide at www.aiim.org/pdfh. The committee is looking for use cases that they can include in the next version of the Implementation Guide. If you have any use cases you would like included, please send them to me.

I am trying to learn how Physicians offices can move from paper forms to digital forms. What have you seen ?

1. how do the office managers convert their paper form into a PDF Form so it can be filled out onto a computer ?

-- do you provide this as a service? I have heard from several offices that they use Microsoft Word - has anyone seen this ?

-- do you provide a name or company outside that would do this for the healthcare office?

-- do you suggest the office worker learn how to do this themselves?
(This is not a simple thing to learn how to do !)

-- do you tell them to contact a medical form company where they purchase new forms to replace their paper forms?

I am not just looking for feedback on "Best Practices" here - just looking to hear back on what people have encountered - even if the approach is "we fill out the form on paper and scan it" or "we made a PDF form, and we then print that to PDF"...what is happening out there ?
