In implementing an ERM solution, you should not have to get into software programming to configure a system and so there are no generic courses for these solutions. Each solution is different and so you would work with the solution provider or integrator. In regards to migrating data, most vendors provide a utility application that has been developed to migrate different record database structures into their proprietary structure.
You have achieved the Practitioner designation for AIIM’s ERM course, so you understand that there is a lot more that has to be done in setting up your information structure first before you implement the technology solution.
You asked about different software providers and I recommend that you use AIIM’s solution locator that can be found at: www.aiim.org/ResourceCenter/Locator/Search.aspx
AIIM has also published its ECM Purchasing Guide for 2009.
This is not an endorsement, but I am aware of (and did work for some time ago) a lower-end ERM provider Zasio Enterprises that has a product called Versatile.
In regards to your second question about Outlook, there is no means, other than establishing rules, that you can have Outlook sort through emails. We are seeing that MS is improving their products and MS Exchange 2010 will allow emails to be archived to less costly storage devices when it is introduced.
Congratulations on completing the Practitioner ERM Course. The Specialist ERM Course addresses HOW you implement ERM solutions. You may find that beneficial for this interesting task ahead of you.
Good Luck!
